| You will either need to pass the
Professional Qualifying Examinations (PQE) or submit a 15000 word dissertation
and apply to either your local ICS branch or direct to its head office in

Chartered Shipbrokers? |
| Members who meet the
necessary criteria can apply to either their local ICS branch or direct to
its head office in London to be considered for promotion to Fellowship. |
| What are the benefits of having the initials
FICS after your name? |
| Chartered status is conferred on Fellows
who may describe themselves as a Chartered Shipbroker |
| What are the benefits of being a MICS? |
| Members belong to the largest worldwide
network of professionals in the shipping industry. |
| What is the annual subscription for Membership
or Fellowship? |
| The current fees are MICS
£100, FICS £135, Retired £30. However please contact your
local branch as discounts may apply. |
| When can I apply for election to Membership
and promotion to Fellowship? |
| The vetting process works throughout the
year and election/promotion candidates are considered at the
five Council meetings
per year.

| How do I register? |
| Complete the Professional Qualifying
Examination Registration form and submit it to either your local branch or the
head office in London as applicable. On registration you become a student
member of the Institute. |
| How do I enter for ICS examinations? |
| Candidates must complete and return the
examination entry form, together with the appropriate fee, to either their
local branch or the head office in London as applicable.

| What are the deadlines for submitting the
Examination entry forms? |
| 21 January for candidates intending to sit at
examination centres not in the UK |

21 February for candidates intending to sit at examination centres in the
United Kingdom |
| What options are there for studying for the
exams? |
| Either enrol as a student on the
TutorShip distance learning programme based in ICS London or with one of the
Institute's agreed distance
learning centres (DLC) worldwide or attend a course
of study at a college that teaches the ICS syllabus. Please refer to the
“Options for study” section of the website. |
| There is no designated examination centre near
me. What should I do? |

If candidates wish to sit at a centre not on the designated list they must
contact the ICS examinations department in the head office in London by 31
October to see if alternative arrangements can be made.

| When are the examinations held? |
| Examinations are held worldwide in April. |

| How do I enrol on a TutorShip distance
learning course? |
| Students can enrol at any time of year
either through the TutorShip department at the Institute's office in London or
through one of the DLCs worldwide. Once enrolled students will be forwarded a
course book and allocated a tutor who will guide them through their studies. |
