| CRITERIA FOR BEING ABLE TO SELECT
THE DISSERTATION ROUTE |
| Over 35 years of age.

| At least 10 years in the
shipping business. |
| Have completed appointments
that demonstrate sufficient professional experience to warrant entry by this
route. |
| PROCEDURE |
| Complete the Membership via
Dissertation Part A form and forward it to either the local ICS
branch or ICS
head office in London for approval to submit a Dissertation. On the form you
will be required to propose the Dissertation title supported by a 500 word
synopsis.

| On receiving approval to apply
for membership you should submit the written and original dissertation
containing 15,000-20,000 words within
six months of the “agreed”
starting date to either the
local branch or head office with your £200
payment. Notes on writing a professional Dissertation are available from the
Education department.

| The Dissertation will be
marked by an expert in the Dissertation’s subject and assessed by at
least 2 other readers and a member of the Institute’s Education and
Training Committee.

| Please note that the copyright
of all successful Dissertations will belong to ICS and be available for its
members on the Members only area of this website.

| When your Dissertation has
been assessed and approved you should complete the Membership via Dissertation
Part B form and forward it either the local ICS branch or ICS head office in
London. |
| FEES |
|
The applicant will be charged £200 for dispensation from the requirement
to pass the Professional Qualifying Examinations (PQE). On election to
membership the applicant will be required to pay the appropriate Membership
subscription. |
