The ICS syllabus is divided into the Groups as
below.
To achieve PQE, candidates must
pass, or gain an exemption from, all Group 1 subjects plus 3 others
from Group
2/3.
Candidates may select the following options in respect of

| Shipping
Business must be taken in the first year. The remaining subjects may be
taken in any order but candidates must sit a minimum of three subjects
at their first attempt ('sitting' means a genuine effort to answer five
questions in each paper). Holders of the Foundation Diploma only have
to take 2 subjects (Shipping Business plus one other) in their first
sitting for PQE. The PQE must be completed within five years from the
